How to restore the "old" (pre-SP2) Internet Explorer (IE) Download settings:

When a web site automatically triggers a download popup, SP2 will block it (In the following we use SP2 as abbreviation. What we always mean are the Internet Explorer changes introduced with XP Service Pack 2). Typically such a behavior was either used by malicious web sites that try get user into installing spyware - but also by useful websites that just want users to spend a few seconds reading their banner ads. It also affects Internet Explorer Plug-Ins such as iMacros that automate file downloads.

How to restore the old (pre-SP2) Internet Explorer (IE) download settings

So if you get the message "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer. Click here for options" in the information bar, here is how to change it:

How to enable automatic prompting for file downloads

You go to Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Security tab > Custom Level button >  Click "Enable" for the option "Automatic prompting for file downloads".

Note for users of iMacros PRO and Scripting Edition: The changes only affect the iMacros Internet Explorer Browser-Plugin. The stand-alone iMacros Browser itself is not affected by these SP2 changes. For example, downloads still start automatically even with the new SP2 IE default settings.
