How to clean your browser cache and URL history:

View confidential HTML documents safely with Internet Explorer (IE)

For your convenience most web browsers store recently accessed files and web sites. Therefore, if you view a private and confidential log file, e. g. critical STARR log files, in your browser and a third party has access to your PC you need to "clean" your browser afterwards:

If you use Internet Explorer (IE) Version 5, just follow the steps outlined below. Netscape and Opera browsers have similar functions available.

Start Internet Explorer  click Tools in the main toolbar, then select Internet Options and check the General tab. You'll see where you can control your home page, temporary Internet files, and history. Go to the Temporary Internet files area and click the (1) Delete Files button. This should clear the Web pages from your disk and free up that space. Now go to the History area and click the (2) Clear History button. If you do a lot of surfing, you can reduce the "Days to keep pages in history" entry.  Click Apply, then click OK to save your changes.

Security Tip: If you set "Days to keep pages in history" to "0", IE does *not* store any information in the History list (but you still need to clean the cache !).

Performance Tip: In addition, over time, web page files and long lists of URLs can take up valuable disk space, and even slow down the browser. To keep IE running efficiently, you should periodically purge the Web cache and history log.
